Yaowarat (Chinatown)

Chinatown or Yaowarat is , the Chinese community in Bangkok, located in Ratchwong road and comprises a confusing.  The area has a somewhat seedy historical reputation for large numbers of opium dens, brothels, pawnshops and a fondness for gambling that used to prevail.  It crowded array of jewellery, hardware, wholesale food, automotive and fabric shops, as well as dozens of other small business.

Many people say that Yaowarat is the good place shop as goods here are the best quality and cheaper than almost anywhere else in Thailand and Chinese proprietors like to bargain, especially along Soi Wanit 1 (also known as Sampeng Lane). Chinese and Thai antiques in various grades of age and authenticity are available in the so-called Thieves’ Market (Nakhon Kasem), but it’s better for browsing than buying these days.

Nowadays, gold shops and pawnshops are still very famous in Chinatown. However, Drug dealing, prostitution and gambling are still thought to be widespread in this area although they are not likely to be very noticeable to the average visitor.

Visit at night here will take you to a food street where you sit on stools watching your meal being prepared, then enjoying the delicious cuisine washed down by tea or a cold beer.

Chinatown is one of attractive place in Bangkok which tourist should not miss and see the colourful and exotic area here.
