Day 1
The day will start with an 08:30 am pick-up at your hotel and then we will drive to the ancient city at Wiang Khum Kam. Less than 25 years ago the ruins of this ancient city were uncovered and today you can tour the site and see the remains of one of many fortified cities built by King Mengrai as he consolidated his hold on the north. The site is too large to cover on foot so we will tour the site by pony carriage or electric tram making the trip most worthwhile as you watch the scenery and the history unfold at a gentle pace.
The next stop will be in Baan Tawai, this village is dedicated to Thailand OTOP products OTOP (One Tambon One Product) is a government initiative intended to support local industry and maintain the livelihood of rural Thai people. The village is quaint and charming and well worth exploring as well as for looking for gifts for home.
After lunch in Baan Tawai we will drive to Lamphun and visit the ancient Wat Phrathat Hariphunchai, built during the reign of King Arthitayarat some 800 years ago. A principal landmark is the 46-metre tall golden Chedi whose present appearance was the result of the restoration work in 1443 by the then King of Chiang Mai. This Wat is regarded as a major place of worship and architectural significance. From Lamphun we will continue south stopping at another historic site (Wat KuKut) and then going in to the village of Pasang to see a cotton weaving factory and to browse the beautiful cotton woven textile products that are unique to this village. The last leg of the journey to Doi Inthanon is a scenic and relaxing drive through rural Chiang Mai province.
Dinner will be at your hotel at the base of Doi Inthanon and you will spend an evening visiting with other guests and relaxing.
