Chiang Rai



Chiang Rai is the northernmost province of Thailand and situated on the Kok River basic 416 metres above sea level. With an area of some 11,678 square kilometres, t
he province is located within the renowned Golden Triangle area where Myanmar, Laos and Thailand converage, is also known as the gateway to Myanmar, Laos and Southern China. 

The majority of the population are generally ethnic Thai, but 12.5% of the population belong to the hill tribes, a minority in the North of Thailand. A minority are of Chinese descent, mainly descendants of the Kuomintang soldiers who settled in the region, notably Santikhiri.

Chiang Rai offer a variety of attractions, beautiful natural surroundings, nice people and a mid climate. It is rich in tourism resources in terms of natural attractions and antiquities, evidence of its past civilsation.  For those interested in the natural side of Chiang Rai, jungle trekking is recommended along. The provincial town has a few live music pubs and discotheques and there is traditional music in the Night Bazaar for offering foreign tourists. There are also plenty of beer bars, some with hostesses, around town. 

Today, Chiang Rai is a travelers paradise endowed with abundant natural tourist attractions and antiquities; the province itself is evidence of past civilization.
